Mauritius – Flic en Flac – Strandgut

Early in the morning Reiner walked to the diving school, but should come back later. We baked pancakes for breakfast. A nice walk on the beach led us again to the Hotel Villas Caroline, where the diving school is located. Reiner made a few appointments, then we headed back along the water.

Due to the wind, there were masses of flotsam and jetsam on the beach. Among other things, many pieces of coral, sea urchins and a can of sardines.

Because of the sea urchins and stone fish in the shallow water, bathing shoes are also definitely advised. We lay in the sand for a while and watched the waves crashing up on the reef edge. In the afternoon in our apartment Reiner started to study and I continued with the backpack for sewing. Then we had another mustard party (cooked too much yesterday) and fruit salad. At the end of the day we played a round of Carcassonne.

Mauritius – Flic en Flac – Rainy day

Today we had rain from time to time. Since an overhead line started to spit fire after a rain shower, we had a power outage for a short time. However, workers came quite quickly to fix it.

We took a walk on the beach and Reiner went to the hairdresser. Then we did some shopping and prepared mustard eggs for dinner.

Mauritius – Flic en Flac

We slept in and Reiner went shopping for bread, eggs and milk. We made ourselves a delicious breakfast and then explored the place. The beach on the Indian Ocean is gorgeous.

To the village center, with many stores, diving schools and restaurants we walked about 30 min. The days are, because it is winter, quite short. Already at 17:45 o’clock is sunset. Daytime high temperature 27 degrees, at night 21 degrees. In the evening we had a curry pan with fresh coconut, lentils, mushrooms and tomatoes.

Mauritius

After another stopover in Johannesburg ( we have been there before?) we reached Mauritius. More than an hour late, because the plane in Johannesburg still had start problems. The island greeted us with rain! Scheduled buses go only until about 17:00 why we had to take a cab (1500 Mauritius Rupees / 38 euros). Our landlord of Sun Stay Beach Apartment in Flic en Flac, waited for us, showed us the apartment and gave us some tips. We had dinner in a small Indian restaurant on the beach.

19-07-18 – Dead Sea – Amman – Flight to Cairo

n the morning we enjoyed again extensively the Dead Sea wellness program. Mud and floating!

Then we drove to Amman, where we saw the old Roman Theater and the adjacent Folklore Museum, which displays old costumes and jewelry, among other things. We dropped off our car at 16:00 (this time without a scrape). The 20 JOD for the tire repair the Car-Rent employees did not want to pay us back. With the reason “that was much too expensive at most 5 JOD, We agreed on 10 JOD refund. At 20:40 o’clock our first flight to Cairo started.

Mount Nebo – Dead Sea

In the morning we visited the Moses Memorial Church, with its beautiful mosaics, on Mount Nebo. From this mountain, according to the Old Testament, Moses saw the Promised Land. Then he had to die. How close we are here to the places from the Bible can be read on a board at the viewpoint. For example, it is only 50 km to Bethlehem! The places can be seen in good visibility.

Since we liked the (mud) bath in the Dead Sea so much, we booked another night at the “Dead Sea Spa Hotel”. This time we ended up on the 4th floor with a nice view of the sea/lake. With about 420 meters below sea level we are at the Dead Sea by the way at the lowest lake on earth. That the air here is “thicker” one notices at the compressed drinking bottles. The sun is not quite as intense behind a haze. As daytime maximum temperature we had 42 degrees and at night 29 degrees.

We did another mud wrap and then a float bath. For the evening I sewed my backpack and Reiner downloaded some music. For dinner we had yogurt with fruits.

Gerasa or also Jerash

Today we had a day trip to Jerash on the plan. To reach the ancient site we had to meander through the traffic for about 40 km during rush hour around Amman. To our surprise the whole area was prepared for a festival, which probably takes place the next days. The thirty-fourth such event.

Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts 2019

The South and North Theaters have been returned to their former purpose as well as the Oval Plaza and other archaeological sites. Safety regulations do not seem to have been completely revised from the pre-Christian era.

There are an abundance of impressive buildings to visit. The Roman presence before and after Chr. has left clear traces.

Afterwards we went back to the hotel where we had dinner.
